Week 2: The Voice that Came Looking for Me

-When we are in a place called shame, we are not brave or bold.
-We cower and we feel inadequate.
-There are things in our lives whether people, places or circumstances that have made us to be ashamed.
-Shame was never God’s idea. His idea of successful living is existing with Him in a relationship that has no interruptions.

When God tells Eve and Adam they will die if they eat the fruit He is referring to the worst kind of death: eternal separation from God or a total disconnect from the relationship.

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Gen 2:17)

>>>>>>>Life without God is chaotic. Knowing God is one of the best things that can happen to ANY human being on this planet!! However His efforts have always been based upon a thing called LOVE. Relationship does not exist without a LOVE being openly displayed.
Boundaries are also a part of LOVE! So when The Lord says DON’T EAT, He is not saying it to hide something from them……..
He is saying this because if they do, it will mess up their RELATIONSHIP. He LOVES the relationship, and He said, “If you eat you will surely die” or basically if you eat of this tree, you are going to mess up OUR relationship.

But they ate. (Genesis 3:6)

And when they ate: THEY even realized…..they messed up the relationship! Before they ate being naked was NOT AN ISSUE. “Shame was not introduced to man until he disobeyed God.” Now that they are ashamed, the next step is to COVER UP. As stated earlier, shame does not make you bold…it literally makes you want to cover up!

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (Gen 3:7)

They came up with a plan to cover their shame…a temporary fix to an eternal problem. How many quick fixes and little petty solutions we come up with to hide and cover up our most shameful things and actions? Some overcompensate, and others allow the shame to drive them into pity and hopelessness.

But THEN something AMAZING happens………..His Voice came looking.

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. (Gen 3:8)

THEY heard the Voice of the Lord walking. (His voice is a representative of Himself.)
Listen… this is amazing……because God isn’t ignorant, He knows what is happening here…..but His first objective was not to drive out the SIN. His first objective was to FIX the relationship!!

The LORD called out to the man and asked, “Where are you?” (Gen 3:9) CEV

He was looking for Adam. SIN didn’t intimidate God. Shame does not keep him from us. He came looking for the shame SIN caused. Shame had caused Adam to hide and God came looking to fix the problem The serpent and the sinful situation had escalated too. God doesn’t like sin because of what SIN does to US!

>>>>>Hearing God is hard when you are ashamed of how you let Him down. It’s not the best feeling in the world and truthfully we all have hid, and wore a fig leaf turtleneck before! But it’s when we are in shame, when we need Him the most. Shame turns into so many other things: lies, pride, despair, depression, anxiety, escapism, addiction, pessimism, faithlessness…….

But shame will not stop God from looking for you….

Father, please Forgive me for where i let you down. I’m sorry for hurting you and I hate disappointing you! I have made some decisions that I am not proud of!! Please forgive me as I open up to You. I won’t run, I won’t hide, I won’t cover up my exposed disobedience. Im sorry!! Help me to be honest with You, when You come looking for me. Help me cherish our relationship. And Thank You! Let me hear your voice of forgiveness and restoration today! Let me FEEL your voice walking beside me today, comforting me and helping me to fix this relationship. Thank you for this LOVE that you have for me!
