Saul vs. David

Psalm 51

**Notes from yesterday’s Sermon

Psa 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Psa 51:11  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

2 Samuel 11

-David and Bathsheba

-David gets Bathsheba pregnant, has her husband set up to be killed in the line of duty.

-David then moves her into his home.

Vs. 27 states plainly “what David did , displeased the Lord.”

2 Samuel 12

-David is confronted by the Prophet Nathan and rebuked by the voice of God.

“God said I raised you up, made you King, gave you the house of Israel and Judah; WHY did you do this evil in his sight?

Vs 13 David said: I have sinned against the LORD.

How is David God’s man and Saul rejected?

🤔Both disobeyed God…but only one is a man after God’s own heart?

—->The way we respond to God’s convictions and His correction will determine if God can trust us with the future.<—-

King David accepted responsibility for His actions; Saul continued to make excuse..1 Samuel 15:24-26

  • David was just like the majority of us….

-We don’t feel sorry for real until what we have done is exposed.

-David killed Bathsheba’s husband after getting her pregnant and went about his way like nothing happened.

David did not repent until he was confronted by the prophet.

1.)After the confrontation David puts himself in a position SPIRITUALLY to commune with God. _Consecration/Fasting

-Its easier to hear God when you are not controlled by your flesh, and emotions.

-Fasting helps to mute the voice of the flesh.

Vs. 1

-God is the only one with the ability to erase transgressions.

Vs. 3-4

-There has to be a moment in our walk with God, where we accept responsibility!!

-The more we blame others, and act narcissistic, making everyone else responsible for our bad decision making, bad habits,

-We have got to understand that when we fall short or when we fail God it breaks His heart.

-Against “THEE AND THEE ONLY David understood he crossed the line..SPIRITUALLY

Psalm 51 Vs 10

-Create in me a clean (pure) heart and renew (rebuild, repair) a RIGHT spirit, within me!!

-David’s REVELATION: David knows The issue is his heart!

VS 11 Cast me not away from thy presence and take not they Holy Spirit from me!

-When King Saul disobeyed God, the Bible says the spirit of the Lord left Him, and instead an EVIL spirit from God tormented Saul.

-David had to work for Saul so that the evil spirit would subside.

-David is watching FIRSTHAND what happens to a man that no longer has the spirit and presence of God.

-Saul is bipolar, suicidal, he even started dealing in witchcraft….

This should always be our greatest concern: That God’s HAND is taken away from us!!

-Without God’s Presence we are not equipped to handle God’s assignments…..
