This morning I was blessed with the opportunity share God’s Word. Here are the notes, however I must say I didn’t end up preaching everything I wrote down lol. Below is the YouTube stream from today’s service.
Gen 25:23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
-Jacob and Esau
-Isaac is carrying on the line of Abraham (the father of the faith)
-1) His wife is barren: Isaac intreats the Lord for her and God answers his prayer.
Genesis 25:21 (KJV) And Isaac intreated (interceded) the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
2.) The children struggled within her, so she asked God and He gave her a response:
Genesis 25:23 (KJV) And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
When they are born, one is holding on to the other.
Esau- Genesis 25:25 (KJV) And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
Jacob- Genesis 25:27 (KJV) And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.
3.) The Parents had favorites
Rebekah loved Jacob
Isaac loved Esau and his venison
Gen 25:30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
Gen 25:31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.
-Jacob seems to have a goal: The birthright.
WHY DID JACOB MAKE SUCH A SERIOUS MOVE?—OF ALL THINGS WHY DID HE ASK FOR THE BIRTHRIGHT?
Question: What is the birthright?
-The Hebrew tradition and RIGHTS for the firstborn include:
1.) The first-born son succeeded to the official authority possessed by his father. If the latter was a king, the former was regarded as his legitimate successor, unless some unusual event or arrangement interfered (2Ch 21:3).
2.) A ” double portion” of the paternal property was allotted by the Hebrew law….
3.)The functions of priesthood in the family.
THE BIRTHRIGHT WAS THE BLESSING THAT GOD WOULD KEEP HIS WORD TO ABRAHAM!!!
–Gen 25:32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
-3 Things to watch out for when you’re TIRED…SPIRITUALLY/FATIGUED
1.) Depreciation– And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
At this particular moment of frustration, tiredness, pressure I DON’T SEE THE VALUE OF WHAT GOD GAVE ME!!
-What God promised me is coming to pass!!!
–Gen 25:33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
2.)Watch Your Agreements– and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
—be careful what you say when you are exhausted/frustrated/pressured
-when we get mad, we get fly at the tongue…sometimes agreeing with hell with frustrated words….
-I can’t do this
-I don’t know why God put so much on me
-Im not good enough, or perfect enough, or I’m going to start coming to God when I get myself together
–Gen 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
–3.) Distractions – the food became more important than the birthright/. Esau could have fixed his own food…but what someone else had looked more important than what he had
_So when Isaac finally gets old and ready to die, Jacob and Rebekah feel BOLD in their trickery,
-Rebekah and Jacob steal the blessing. Isaac can’t see and bless Jacob…
-Isaac can’t reverse the blessing…Esau ends up hating his brother.
-IF Esau never would have sold the birthright, it would have never been able to be taken…..
Take Away from the Message:
-What God promises is special, don’t let fatigue cause you to discount the value of your birthright (promise from God)
-Don’t let the state of the country, the state of the pandemic, deaths and losses, restructuring, things being exposed, heartbreak….etc
don’t let this season cause you to take for granted what God is doing in your life
