Pioneering Faith pt. 2

Genesis 12:1  Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Genesis 12:2  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Genesis 12:3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Genesis 12:4  So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

As we continue our study of Abram’s faith we must make note of God’s Word. It is of the greatest importance that we acknowledge God’s Word as the foundation of our faith. Paul explains this in Romans 10:7—

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Our faith is a product of our ear for the WORD OF GOD. So when Abram is addressed by God to depart, this WORD was the motivation! Please understand, the Word of God is a PROMISE! The promises of God is what the faith pioneer sets his expectations on! You may say “how does a person change the entire trajectory of their life based upon the Word of God?” That Word, that PROMISE is the key! This PROMISE is our GUARANTEE that God will do exactly what he said!

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. -Isaiah 55:11

Faith in God means trusting:

1.)He is who He says He is (which we will cover later)

2.)HE will not lie to us!

This is why the faith pioneer has to have a HEALTHY relationship with the Word of God! If there is ever a time where believing God is a challenge..the Word of God (the PROMISES of God) is our COMPASS! The Word of God is more than a history book, or good stories! It is the foundation of our walk of faith! Abram was instructed to LEAVE based upon the PROMISES OF GOD! He believed Jehovah was not a LIAR! In today’s society, HUMANISM has attempted to discredit the Word of God! This is why faith is such a challenge for today’s believer…..because our ears are POLLUTED. We don’t have an ear for God’s Word like we should. (That’s an entirely different blog post lol…..maybe later)

GOD’S PROMISES ARE MULTI-DIMENSIONAL -His promise is intended to change EVERY aspect of your LIFE; spiritual, physical, and mental. But in order for our life to experience those blessings, we have to follow God’s instructions. There is no promise without instruction. None of the things God promised Abram would have happened if Abram did not obey God’s instructions. The promises of God in the life of the believer can not be obtained without obedience. Faith without works is dead -James 2:20. God told Abram what will be the result of his obedience.

God’s Promises to Abram- I WILL (lets take a closer look) Reminder: God’s Promises are multi-dimensional:

1.) I WILL SHOW you a land (direction, guidance)

2.) I WILL MAKE you a great nation (descendants, heritage)

3.) I WILL BLESS you and MAKE your name great (legacy, infamous)

4.) I WILL BLESS those that bless you —I WILL CURSE those that curse you (covenant, partnership)

5.) I WILL make you the reason that all families on earth will be blessed (progenitor, patriarch)

At 75 years old, Abram made a choice that changed the world. He believed God, and trusted that God would keep his Word to him. Abram was wealthy, up in age, and established. Yet God challenged him to believe for MORE. Each of those promises was more than what Abram had before he heard from God. His obedience showed God that he wanted MORE.

Final thought: I wonder what MORE God wants to do with us but we are comfortable? I wonder what MORE God has in store for us, but we are afraid. Do we believe God like we say we do? The myth has always been: God doesn’t call the rich or the wealthy. Abram is the proof that God calls who he wants too! Abram was not broke, nor was he in poverty (they are two different things)! Abram was doing JUST FINE minding his own business! If you are struggling with believing God, go to His Word! Open your ears to the Word. Allow the word to FEED your faith! The proof that you believe God’s promises is your obedience. The enemy is not intimidated by our faith talk! He is TERRIFIED of an obedient believer.
